Brief Description:  rear seat throttle

I wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing things when I skip ahead in the plans due to specific mods or needing parts - so I rolled back thru the manual to see if there was anything I could do from the past...and there was, I had most of the parts in for the rear seat throttle and I ran up to Home Depot for a tap and die set to tap the aluminum tube for the hardware.

Again, with every mod there is a lot of head scratching and extra time involved...but this mod is worth the tradeoff for the $ and weight savings. I actually got this method of providing throttle control to the rear seat from Dan Horton. It's not necessarily harder than the plans method as you still have the drill holes in the bulkheads, but the weight savings comes in with not having the regular throttle setup in the rear. There is beauty in the simplicity of just having the knob back there for the passenger and it is out of the way.

I started with a 6061-T6 aluminum tube that I tapped one end to #10 32 and then cut the head off of a 10 32 screw to use the thread portion. With the thread screwed into the tube I also tapped the knob (drawer handle) and screwed it onto the thread/tube. This is the part the passenger with use to open and close the throttle from the back seat. Next I decided on how long to make the tube and then cut the tube and smoothed the rough end. I tapped that end and then cut the head off the other screw and then threaded it onto the clevis. The clevis end will connect to the main throttle up front. That was the easy part, now it was time to drill holes in the 3 bulkheads to pass the tube thru to the rear section. I didn't get it the holes perfectly lined on the first pass and had to open up the holes a bit - but due to the throttle geometry there is some vertical movement when the tube is pushed and pulled so that has to be accounted for. I cut and drilled the delrin slides, but I still need to rivet them in as I want the tube sliding/contacting the delrin and not the metal bulkheads - but that will be tomorrow
