Brief Description: Riveted pitch servo bracket and some other things
I pounded a total of 22 rivets tonight - but they were in tight quarters so it took a bit of time to figure out the best way to buck the hard to reach rivets. Also, I had to drill one out. They were tough - and it took a long time - but they are done.
The pitch servo was first - I got 4 of the 5 solid rivets bucked on each bracket, but the front hole is too close to the bellcrank rib so I opted for a LP4-4 pull rivet in that hole. For the side rivets, I used the MSP-42 called out by Van's. Those solid rivets took a long time. I had to stick two fingers thru the hole in the baggage rib (see small hole in pic #1) to hold the bucking bar - which was tough on the fingers. It was even tougher to get the gauge on the shop heads to check them. It took a long time...did I say that already?
Next I riveted the spacer to the floor support angle, thru the nutplate - and then the assembly gets 3 rivets to hold it in the fuselage - 2 outboard to the gusset (pic 2) and one inboard - I had to use the offset on the outer rivet as there was no way to get the squeezer in there and buck the outboard rivets by hand. I over drove one of the outboard rivets on the right side and man, that took forever to drill out. I had to use the mirror and driill it by reverse sight. Little by little I was able to get it drilled out - and reset. I shot some primer on the gusset where the drill bit wandered a bit.
Lastly, one outboard rivet in the forward arm rest for each side and It was time to call it a night.
