Brief Description:  Rear Throttle

I have decided to go with the Dan Horton method of giving throttle access to the rear passenger. This involves less weight and less “complexity”…now I say less complexity with a caveat. The caveat being that anything done, “not to plans” has a MORE complex initial installation – but after that, it’s a less complex operation. Make sense? Ha! The method uses a clevis attached to the (pilot) throttle, which is attached to an aluminum tube that runs thru holes in the bulkheads and is supported by and slides on delrin which is also attached to the bulkheads. At the aft end of the tube a knob is put on to give the co-pilot something to grab on to for the push/pull. The good news is the leverage is greater for the pilot than the co-pilot so I will be able to still wrestle control if needed. :) With the plans method the rear throttle is much like the forward throttle with a lever.

Today, I got the delrin plates cut and drilled for the tubing holes. I used the band saw guide and some clamps to secure the delrin to the guide so that I could cut a nice flat piece of delrin. It worked very well. The tube will slide along the delrin and should have a sold feel. I have purchased some aluminum bar that I planned to use as the throttle tubing but I don’t like the feel of it and besides, I will have to tap one end and die the other, so I will order some aluminum tubing from one of the aircraft supply shops – like Dan speced in the first place.
