Brief Description:  Fuel Lines - #3

More fuel line bending today… and I am realizing that although it is not easy, once each line is done, it is finished and I can move on. I am a slow tube bender…for sure, and I have resigned myself to trudging thru the process and finishing it – no matter how hard. I did 2 lines yesterday, and got two lines done today! Today was a much less frustrating day – as is usually the case with the steep learning curve items and After today, I only have one more fuel line left… where is that order from Van’s for the additional tubing…?

Today I tackled the tube from the fuel selector to the filter…so I am kind of working up stream. The Andair fuel selector is designed so that you can change the clock position of the fittings – and as such, they don’t final install the screws on the fittings. So, first I had to do that. While I was at it, I decided that I would face the right tank fitting back instead of down like the others to ease the entry point of the tubing from the right tank. As per the instructions, I greased the o-rings, inserted the fitting at the appropriate clock position and screwed them in. After, that I punched the screw heads into the drilled holes next to the screw – as per plans – which I guess, locks the screws in place so they can’t unscrew and fall out.

Next I made the line from the selector to the filter. I did this one twice, but it is a short run, so not much wasted tubing. The next tube to be made was the left tank line into the selector. This one connects to the left fuel tank and comes into the fuselage thru a hole in the front side skin. To replicate where that hole would be, I made a template from the front side skin and that seemed to work out really well. I made this tube twice as I flared the one end of the tubing without putting on the sleeve…. It was bound to happen.
