Brief Description:  Fuel Lines - #2

The next line to be made was the pump-to-firewall line and at least it didn't have to be bent and flared "in place" so I could remove it for fitting and flaring. I initially made it with two 90 degree turns but evidently scored the edge when I tried to re-bend it (see Pic #2) and decided I would remake it and put a 180 bend there instead, so that one was made two times also. When you see the final product, you may wonder why 16 inches of tubing was used to make the 5 inch run…that’s because the elevation changes were too drastic after allowing for the straight runs for the flare and the fittings on the ends. As before – in the end, the fitting sit well without pressure or binding, on both ends of the fittings. I also made an order to Van’s mid-day to order more 3/8” tubing and some other odds and ends – as I knew I would need more that the 12’ of supplied 3/8” tubing during my “learning” sessions. I did try to use coat hanger wire to at least mock up working replicas, but being off just ¼” can make the whole tube useless. On one tube “error” I had the b-nut and the sleeve fitting on the tube, but moved back and then made a bend in the tube. The b-nut can go over bends, but the sleeve cannot… so that was a wasted tube! At least, I haven’t forgotten to put the sleeve on the tube before flaring… fingers crossed…
