Brief Description:  Drilling Fuse Skins - Cockpit Rails and LG boxes

Lots of work in the shop again today. I Final drilled the F-812B Angle/Control stop and final drilled the 1/8" holes in the aft deck (F-819), then it was on to drilling the F-816 cockpit rails. The idea is to make sure that the outboard edge of the rail is aligned with the edge of the longerons - sounds like what you would expect and it is. Once aligned, they were clamped in position and the tops were drilled down into the upper longerons. (pic #1)

The next part was drilling the upper longerons for the outboard edges of the landing gear boxes. The flange of the LG box needs to come all the way outward to the edge of the upper longeron. This took a little more umph, so I used the cargo ratchet straps going around the fuse to pull it into alignment. I found that putting a piece of wood under the strap and having it extend up just a bit allowed the flange to slide easily outward into perfect alignment against the wood. Without the wood, the strap was clamping down & in on the flange and it took too much force to get it outward along the longeron apex. (pic #2)
