Brief Description:  test right fuel tank...kinda...part 2

So, I raided my pitot tube hardware and used that as the fitting/balloon conduit, using a zip tie to connect the balloon to the fitting. Next I had to make two plugs for the fuel return and the fuel vent fittings. This took a bit of time to flair two tubes, and set up the fittings. To “plug” the tubing, I just crimped the end with pliers in a vice grip multiple times. I then used Teflon thread tape and tightened the plugs onto the fittings. Lastly, gorilla tape went over the fuel cap.

I used the 12v emergency car air compressor to fill up the tank with air, knowing it would not over-pressurize the tank too quickly…boy, was I right…that thing is slow. After I pressurizing the tank I took it inside and filled up the bath tub with soapy water, and took a cup and poured soapy water over each row of rivets, carefully looking for leaks. The good news is, I didn’t find any rivet leaks… the bad news is, the balloon/fitting connection was not airtight and was blowing soapy bubbles. Although I did a pretty thorough job of looking for rivet leaks, I will re-test the tank tomorrow after leak-proofing the balloon. I glued the balloon to the fitting with RTV sealant and will try again tomorrow. Cross your fingers...
