Brief Description:  W-423 joint plate

There is a joint plate that sits underneath the leading edge and the tank. It gets riveted to the leading edge and helps hold the tank on with screws into platenuts that are riveted to the joint plate. I had drilled these joint plates for the screw and rivet holes back when I did the initial leading edge and tank fitting – way back when. Since then, the W-423 joint plate was set aside, and now needs to be deburred, edge smoothed, platenut rivet drilled, dimpled, cleaned and primed. There are 2 of them and I deburred and edged them both, but then I wanted to re-install them on the leading edge and put the leading edge and tank back on the spar to make sure the orientation was good between joint plate, tank and leading edge…also I wanted to visualize that everything was good.

Good thing I re-installed everything – as it became clear that in my proseal exuberance, I got a little too much on the part of the skin that the joint plate lays on and is causing it to not be able to lay flush. I will have to remove some of the proseal.
