Brief Description:  misc tank work

Tonight I knocked two more misc. items off the tank list... and did one that was not on the list.

I wasn't happy with the way the fixed fuel pickup fitting sat on the reinforcement ring when the anti-rotate bracket was clecoed in. It didn't sit flush/perpendicular until I manufactured a spacer to fit between the ring and the fitting. I took some sheet aluminum and drilled a 9/16" hole (same as the outside diameter of the fitting) using the unibit. Then I used the fly cutter and cut a circle around the hole - to fashion a spacer/washer. Now the fitting sits just right!

I also safe tied the flop tube fitting with safety wire - after torquing the fitting to 115 in/ibs.. I had to do it twice because it was my first foray into safty wiring things. The key is to get the wire tight, and to make it so that the fitting can not loosen itself.

Then I took one of the other anti-rotate brackets and made an anti-rotate fitting for the flop tube, but I didn't get a picture of that - so maybe next time. The anti rotate bracket will keep the flop tube from moving/breaking the pro-seal seal when I attach the fuel line to the flop tube (in a few years) when the wings are mounted on the fuselage. You really have to plan ahead wjen building a plane....
