Brief Description: left tank follow up - 8/28/13 #2
After walking the dog and mulling the days’ activities over in my mind - I thought I might need to do some more pro-seal work so that I could let it sit overnight and tack up...so back to the shop...for just a few minutes...
The most important part was to go back and encapsulate all of the rivets on the stiffeners with the tank sealant (pro-seal) to make sure there are no leaks. I had done most of them as we were riveting, but I wanted a good thorough double-check. After that was done, I put a bead of pro-seal around the reinforcement ring to keep the fuel in the tank.
I have seen other builders make a tab to put in the tank, or on the fuel filler flange as a "second opinion" visual reference to how much fuel is in the tank. Some other builders have marked the rib for the same purpose. I chose the mark method - with one inch increments, angled so that when the airplane is sitting on the ground, the lines will be level. The one inch marks should be good for 3 gallons - based on another builders’ measurement with the same tanks.
