Brief Description:  Wing rib to spar rivets

My RV-8 buddy from VA is in town for training this week so we began by riveting the main ribs to the left wing front/rear spar. The main spar/rib rivets were all bucked – and I never gave much thought to it ahead of time, but this is definitely a two-person job. It “could” be done with one – but it would be very awkward to try and do it yourself and the results would not be as good (imho). When the rear spar was riveted on, I was able to squeeze It – which is also a good thing. Again, with two of us in the shop, Bob was able to work ahead of me and place rivets in the holes, and then come in behind me and move clecos and place rivets again. It really worked out much faster that way. I am only counting the hours worked in the shop for the 3.8 but there were definitely more man-hours completed than just the 3.8!

We also were able to rivet 11 of the main ribs to the front spar before we started running out of gas – and called it a night.
