Brief Description:  Deburred 14 wing ribs

So today I started to deburr the wing ribs. This is the first step in the wing rib preparation. Each rib is deburred, then it must be fluted to straighten it out from the punch press and then the flanges must be re-bent to 90 degrees. The wing ribs must be smooth and straight with good right angles or else the wing skins will not lay flat. Also, when I prep the fuel tank ribs, they have to done properly or the tank could leak. So, my plan is to get my wing prep skills up to speed on the main ribs first, then do the leading edge ribs and lastly, the fuel tank ribs. By then I should have the process down to a science.

I also plan to work thru the 3 steps (debur, flute, straighten) on the main ribs and leading edge ribs, before touching the tank ribs. FYI, the fluting and straightening is really like a repetitious iteration going back and forth until the rib is straight and right angled. The fluting process pull the flange off of the 90 degree, and bending the 90 degree flange puts a slight bend in the rib... so, therefore you bend a little then flute a little, and repeat until done.

Any way - that's the plan...so today I was able to get 14 main ribs deburred. The ribs take a while, but like anything dealing with airplane building, there is a learning curve. The first rib took the longest and then by the 4th or 5th rib I was able to get into a groove and get a more efficient procedure down for each rib...more about that later.
