Brief Description:  drilled and primed tie down assembly/spacers

Another 2.0 hours of good work but without a lot of visual progress. When I used to review peoples web sites, It is very difficult to get a feel for the tedious work that some build sessions are full of. I don't mind them, like I said, it was a good work session - but after all these hours on the wings, I have very little to show for it. Some platenuts put on the spars is about it (I do understand how important these are, I just want you to get a feel for the temporary tedium) - but now that these tie-down brackets are about to be done, the assembly will be bolted to the spar in a day or two. Anyway, the wings are mostly air - so before long I will have the ribs and rear spar rivetted up and I will see MVP...major visual progress.

Tonight I drilled the platenut attach rivets. It's a little backwards but the plans work. Since the holes were drilled for the main bolts, I assembled the spacer/tie-down and ran a bolt thru the main hole, lined up the platenut in the vertical orientation (using my highly trained/tuned eyeball) clamped down on one side of the platenut and drilled the other side thru the tie down and spacer. Insert cleco in freshly drilled hole, then drill the other side...rinse, repeat until all 16 holes are drilled.

After drilling all the platenut holes, I deburred and countersunk the back side of the spacer. The idea being that if you need to change out a platenut, you can take the tie-down assembly off of the spar and the spacers/tie-down are removable to work on them on the workbench without drilling a rivet out of the spar.

Next I will rivet the spacers to the tie-down and bolt the assembly to the spar.
