Brief Description:  pre elevator assembly

Today the goal was to get the substructure for the right elevator ready for priming - as the weather will be warm enough for a good outdoor primer session. There was a lot of miscellaneous stuff that had to be done first. I started with a lot of reading on the beveling of E-713, the counter weight skin. I noodled that around in my mind a while and wasn't confident I knew what to do exactly... I thought I did - but just wanted to make sure. There seems to be a "gearing up" that happens each build session...and I wasn't there yet. Had I been 2 hours in, I would have just beveled away - but I wasn't there yet.... Soooo, I first went out to a few build sites, because I thought I had seen pictures of the beveling. I then confirmed with a build-buddy, Rob, From Virginia...via text, he confirmed for me what I needed to do. (Thanks Rob!!) That's another great thing about the fraternity of airplane builders - they are a great group of people! Always there to help!

So after I did the beveling, I went ahead and cut the counterweight to specs. The right elevator is lighter than the left elevator because the left elevator has the additional weight of the trim tab. Therefore the left elevator will get the "full" counterweight whereas the right elevator gets a smaller counterweight. Capiche?

Next I deburred all the substructure holes and edges and dimpled the newly smoothed substructure...I had only dimpled the stiffener holes so I still had to dimple the skin...call it done now. After all that deburring the pieces are covered in a fine dust of aluminum - and that has to come off before the primer goes on or it will not adhere...so to the washing station!

After the washing, rinsing and drying dance - the parts were laid out and primed! Another good day building.
