Brief Description:  Started Rudder Substructure

Tonight I started the rudder substructure. The plans have you trim the excess off the R-710 rudder brace as well as fabricate the 717 spacer, and the (2) 716 panels. After doing that the process is pretty standard, cleco the substructure together and then match drill the holes. It was at this point that I noticed that the 710 rudder brace was not sitting flush against the rib. After researching about that, it appears that I have fallen into a typical error in the plans. The plans have you trim the rudder brace along three punch marks...and when you do, the rudder brace will not have the proper edge clearance... It's really not too bad - I could probably get away with it, it's off betweeen 1/16" - 1/8"...but I will order another part, and make myself happy going forward the right way.
