Brief Description:  Drilling the horizontal Stabilizer

Today is election day so me and my bride did our American duty and voted. I figure it will be a better use of my time to build now, look at the election results later.

This section is all about getting the parts put together and then drilling / match drilling the holes in order to assemble parts. I wasn’t really sure how all of this was supposed to flow together so I sent a text to my build buddy “Skyking Bob” in Virginia, requesting a consultation. After a 45 minutes skype session, we were able to talk our way thru our interpretation of the instructions and in the end, it all made sense. I had heard somewhere before that you should read the entire section of the instructions so that you understand the high level idea. Guess what…”they” were right. From now on, I will read the entire section and put the pieces together in my mind, first.

Anyway, onward to the parts… The confusing part for me was the 404 and 405 ribs and how they were aligned into the forward spar structure in order to be drilled. But after Bob and I worked thru it – it was simple. Once that was accomplished, it was a matter of cleco-ing the skeleton together, drilling the rib to spar attach points, un-cleco, deburr, then re-cleco the skeleton. Cleco the skin on, slip in the 404/405, clamp them in, drill, cleco, drill, cleco, etc. After the 404/405 ribs were done I was able to match drill the skin to all the spars & ribs. After the skin is done it is time to final-drill the 810/814 reinforcement. It all sounds easy, and it is – but it takes time…
