Brief Description:  NAS6606-36 bolts + saddle bolt install/torque

Next, I wanted to get the new NAS6606-36 bolts installed, so out came the ½” x 36” rod tool that I will forever call the bang-o-matic 3000. Don’t tell Bob this, but from first to final bolt install took me less than 15 minutes for all four bolts. Wow – that’s definitely the BEST tool for this job.

With those on place I decided I would final torque the U-803 outboard wear plate nuts since they were in for good. Now, back when Bob and I drilled these holes for the landing gear, I made the mistake, ummm, I mean I made the “unintended design change” and drilled these for a 5A (5/16”) bolt instead of a 4A (1/4”) bolt. Come to think of it, the Grove supplied wear plates might have been drilled out to 5/16” already? Well, either way, I now have to use the 5A bolts and the torque goes up considerably, especially when using a nylock nut. The spec says 100-140 inch/lbs on the nut + 14 additional for the nylock. The midpoint of 120+14=134 sounded light, so I rounded to 145 inch/lbs. It took a little longer because I had to remove some other nuts that were in the way of the torque wrench / socket and then I had to re-torque them. I finished them off with the torque seal.
