Brief Description:  Landing gear test install with saddle bolts

With the two aft landing gear bolts successfully installed in the gear towers with their retainers I started to think about next steps. It sure would be nice if I could go ahead and install the forward bolts and be done with that job and be done with the gear tower access at least for the LG bolts. The best way to find if the gear will fit is to see if the gear will fit. It just takes some time and effort, but worth it. I prepped the airplane for the inverted half roll, and then with Teresa's help, we installed the forward bolts (wrong way out) for clearance sake and then installed the landing gear. It will work as the brake fluid fittings on the upper side of the landing gear force the gear to be able to clear the bolts sticking out. Yes, it will work - I can install all 4 close tolerance bolts!

I happened upon even more perfect tool, it's a 1/2" by 3 ft. steel bar to use on the next two bolts - it will be the best tool for the job now that I rounded the tip and smoothed it.

While I was at it, I also grabbed the saddles and installed them on the one bolt for a look-see and noticed that there wasn't much bolt sticking out. After research, I learned that to get the proper bolt clearance on the installed nut/washer, I will need the NAS 6606-36 bolts...the NAS 6206-36 are about 1/8" too short. The 6606 has a longer thread area for the same -36 designation. Some military specs allow flush nut installations, but I don't want to have a DAR flag when it's time to fly, so I will order the new bolts on Monday.
