Brief Description:  Defrost fan – initial wiring

I ran the defrost fan wire from the power to the switch, labeled and terminated it on both ends. Then started thinking about the wires that will run from the switch to the fan itself. I do not want to run those wires just yet as the defrost fan will be mounted under the forward skin, which will be riveted on when the wiring is more complete. I did hook up the defrost fan to power and ground to see how much air it will move. It will do a good job, but I noticed that it is blowing air in the opposite direction that I would prefer. The fan is shrouded/protected on one side and open on the other and for now we will call the protected side the “bottom”. My intent was to mount the top of the fan to the underside of the forward skin with the shrouding on the bottom. This would protect the fan on both the top and the bottom from fingers, bugs, etc. But the fan blows “down” thru the bottom so I would have to mount it from the bottom and then shroud/protect the top on my own. Not a huge deal, but I wasn’t expecting that. I also looked at maybe reversing the polarity of the motor by switching wires but that didn’t get the air blowing in the opposite direction, the fan just doesn’t move. There is a black, red and yellow wire, and no other combination works to move air other than power to red and ground to black. I am guessing the yellow wire is for a temperature gauge to start and stop the fan as this is a computer/electronics fan.
