Brief Description:  Switches and switch locations

I worked up a template on blue tape covering the right side console and could fit 11 switches / appliances. That would take care of almost all of the items as I am planning on putting the magneto (p-mag) switches and the starter switch/button on the right forward panel, not the right side console. The decision point has been trying to decide between putting all the switches I can on the right console whereby leaving the center panel free of switches. This would make the center panel maintenance easier. The other idea would be to keep the flight critical switches on the center panel and use more peripheral view / touch to switch things on and off. The flight critical items would be things like the fuel pump, landing/taxi/strobe lights. The reasoning being that if you needed to quickly flip the fuel pump on, you want it right in front of you where you can get to it quickly and easily, not off to the side where you might flips the defrost fan on by accident. You also don’t want to take your eyes off the flight path / instruments during an instrument approach or move your head around during instrument conditions. I am probably over-thinking it, but I tend to do that. This is likely the first/only/last airplane that I will build and I want to make it “perfect” for me, which is probably not a reasonable expectation – because regardless of where I end up putting the switches, I can move them if they are a problem – and this airplane is already going to be pretty darn awesome! So I am sure it will be perfect for me.

In the end, I have decided that the non-essential things will be on the right side console and the essentials will be on the center panel. The right side console will hold things like the dimmer switches, the USB chargers, the defrost fan, etc. I will also have left over room for other switches in the future expansion / addition of capacity mode, so that’s a bonus. I also drilled some practice holes in a practice console as I want to do it right when it’s game time!
