Brief Description:  Parking Brake Cable #4

I started with a call to tech support Bob to confirm that I had the correct understanding of the orientation and operation of the parking brake valve and the intended operation. With that settled in my mind, I was ready to cut the sheath back and cut the cable to its final length. This meant completely removing the cable from the gear tower and the Adel clamps. The adel’s are easy but the gear tower takes a long open-ended wrench reaching up from the bottom hole up to the top and moving the wrench 2” at a time and flipping between turns so it takes a while.

With the cable removed, I made a few test cuts on the sheath with the Dremel as I wanted to cut the sheath but not the cable inside. After a few practice cuts, I was ready for the real deal. It went just fine with a bit of an angle cut across the sheath grain it comes apart nicely. There is also a plastic sheath for the cable to glide on, but I trimmed this with a knife and was ready to reinstall for the final time and test it out. After re-installing the cable I attached the hardware and the cable end to the parking brake valve and test it! Yep, it worked great! The maximum allowable pull distance for the knob is 3 3/8” but the valve travel is only about 2.5” so all is good.

I still need to final trim the cable length and put the cotter pin in place but that can wait.
