Brief Description:  Landing/Taxi light install

I prepped the AeroLED Aerosun Vx landing/taxi light pivot point mount for installation in the wing tips. The wing tip openings have been fit to the lights (long ago) but the last step is to permanently bond the pivot point mount to the wing tip and that can be done with rivets or structural adhesive (epoxy).

I decided I would rather rivet the pivot point mount than try to hold the light in the correct place with duct tape until the epoxy dried. Since I had the needed aluminum blind rivets (they are softer and will not crush the plastic and fiberglass during installation) I proceeded to hold the light in the correct placement and drill the four holes for each mount.

The holes are then countersunk on the outside of the wing tips to accept the flush rivets. I was reading up on the next installation steps and found that even when choosing the rivet installation method, it is advised that a structural adhesive also be used. Ok, interesting… Since it was getting late, I did not want to start the process of mixing epoxy and going on the clock – so I laid everything out for tomorrow’s session.
