For whatever reason, I never installed the nutplates that hold the wing access panels on. So, as part of the clean up of the wings - I went ahead and installed them. The wings have been in sitting in the corner of the garage for a few years now while I made progress on other airplane parts. They still need a few things done before we can call them done, so – no time like the present – let’s get to work.
I pulled the clecos on the bottom skins and pulled off the blue plastic on the inside surface of the skins. I then cleaned up the non-primed areas with acetone and cleaned the outer skin surface as well. I riveted the nutplates on and then while the bottom skins were off, I cleaned the main spar, ribs, and rear spar on the insides of the wings as well as the outside surfaces. This is in preparation for mounting the ailerons and mounting the flaps.
