Brief Description: Landing gear bolt installation #2 (bolt 3)
|
|
The #3 bolt/retainer is going on the aft side of the right gear tower and what I thought would be good, was just too tight a fit for my comfort as I did not want to have to redo an insertion with the real bolt. This is a one-way job. Do, I did some more grinding, deburring, smoothing, and priming on the #3 retainer. Since the 1" pipe worked so well on bolt #1, I went straight to it for bolt #3...and would you believe it...it took just 9 minutes to get that bolt completely installed.
The bolt does turn a bit while being driven in, so I did have to pause for some turning at the bottom, but that 1" pipe is definitely the WAY TO GO! The only critique I have is that the 6-foot-long pipe is a little unruly, and really, a pipe length of 24" to 30" would be perfect. But not worth my time to cut this one down. It might also work better if it was a 1/2" pipe - as I did leave the plastic cap in place and tape the end for a somewhat soft contact zone.
The pipe is definitely the way to go....did I say that already? Really! :)
Hmmm, I wonder if I would be able to finagle the landing gear into position if I install the next two (front) bolts too? I think it is probably worth a test look.
