Brief Description:  Landing gear hardware install for brakes

With the goal of getting the gear put into position so I can finish refitting the left and right brake lines to the landing gear fittings, I went to the parts supply bin and retrieved the needed landing gear parts. Since I am not actually going to install the landing gear, I don’t need all of the hardware but I decided now is a good time to install the wear plates as they are needed for this exercise and they do not negatively affect the future install/uninstall of the landing gear. In other words, they will not be in the way. The plan is to install the 4 wear plates that the gear will lay on when the fuse is inverted and then roll the fuselage inverted and install the landing gear – gravity will hold it in place for the brake line fitting. It will be easier to install the wear plates while the fuselage is upright, so I had to go back and research what I was calling the left/right side for the purposes of the landing gear.

One frame of reference - A good practice to get into is to always consider left and right from the viewpoint of the pilot sitting inside the cockpit – that way there is one frame of reference – and only one left and right, top and bottom. I did not always consider this. As builders, we start building parts that become assemblies – think if you picked up the firewall – depending how you are holding that part and looking at it, left could be right or left and vice versa.

I found a picture from 8/2015 where the left was left when upside down (so on the right), so I installed the wear plates as such. Unfortunately, when I rolled the fuselage over, I saw where I had adopted the one frame of reference after that picture, and had re-marked the proper orientation and relabeled the parts so now I will need to move them. This does not matter for the brake fitting work, but I will have to move them to their correct place when I flip the fuse back over.
