Brief Description: Talked avionics & electrical with Walt
I met with Walt Aronow over at Northwest Regional (52F) to discuss electrical and avionics issues. Walt owns EXP Aircraft Services (ExpAircraft.com) and he spoke at our EAA meeting back in September. He has a long history all things electrical in all things aviation - from experimental to heavy iron. Walt is also a Garmin and Dynon dealer and his focus is now on the experimental market (mostly RV's) and he flies a beautiful US flag inspired RV9A.
I have already decided on the Garmin product line so I printed off the G3X avionics price list and used it to work thru the products that best fit my mission. After that we discussed his opinions on fuses vs. circuit breakers, wiring runs, switch preferences and anything else I could think of. We discussed all assist options from a complete panel/wiring build to just the wiring harnesses and Walt was very patient with all my questions.
I have a few decisions to make around whether to go with the GNX 375 or GTN 650 and the related radio decisions, but other than that I have a good idea of the direction I am headed after talking to Rob and Walt. Time to go put extra water and fertilizer on the money tree in the back yard...Mom should have told me that airplanes were expensive. :)
