Brief Description:  Fill in the aft canopy skirt hole

In this session, I filled in the aft canopy skirt hole - moving forward with the canopy skirt finish, without the pull method. I started by taking the canopy skirt off and removing/smoothing the micro buildup I have on the underside. The idea is to make room for a good layup of glass/resin bond on the underside.

I mixed up the resin and cut the glass - then started wetting the layups and laying them on one at a time. I did 3 layers on top and 3 on the bottom. It probably would have been easier to wet them all at the same time and then lay them up as one layer for top and bottom, but likely because I was out of practice I did it the less efficient way.

After laying up the glass mix, smoothing out to remove the air bubbles, I cut and laid the dacron peel ply and put some wax paper on to keep the resin off the padding. I laid the canopy skirt down on the shop floor leaned at an angle so that the aft portion would be flat and the resin would not drip/slide. After further though, I realized that it might make a flat spot instead of a round contour in the hole that I am filling so after letting it set a bit, I moved it back to the bench and worked it into a good contour and left it to cure completely. After returning a few hours later, I pulled the wax paper and peel ply - It came out well.
