I wanted to get a better fit on the canopy slide rail and figured this was as good a time as any. The previous method was just to cut the canopy rail with a hack saw and making the cut piece removable. That method worked fine but the gap caused by the hack saw was fairly large and I thought I could do better. It took me a while to fine a substitute piece of aluminum that was the same thickness as the canopy rail - i finally found a match in my scrap bin.
I cut the new piece larger on each side as I had made the original slide rail opening non-symetrical so that it would only go on one way. I cut the new inlay on the band saw and then filed the excess down until I got a good fit on the side edges. I then cut the outer slide rail on each side to fit the new inlay. It's still not perfect, but it is better and I am calling it done.
