Out of curiosity, I worked on a bit of research for the empennage fairing and then went to work on getting the initial fit. I had to cut the round out for the elevator horns to get it to lay down initially and what I saw after those cuts was a pretty good fit. Not perfect and it will need some additional glass work, but not too shabby for the initial fit.
The fairing is made up of glass on top and then there are 2 aluminum parts that get attached to the bottom closing up the gap between the HS and the Fuselage - but some people go ahead and add glass to the bottom and make it a one piece fairing. I think the reason they do that is because the front curve around the HS is fairly bulky and the glass bottom can smooth that out. Not sure that I will make a one piece unit, but I might make a hybrid where I add some glass to that front area to smooth that bump out a bit...we will see. I don't need to worry about this fairing until I get to chapter 10, so I have some time to think about it.
