Brief Description:  Working on the B-29, "FiFi" #6

After we finished up, Henry and a few others asked us if we wanted to take a look around inside? The ladder was placed in position and we climbed up into the cockpit. When we were all inside, we closed the hatch we had just come up thru, so that we could move around easier in the cockpit. Henry took us thru the interior giving us a tour and explaining things. We looked down the crawl tube that connects the two pressurized compartments (the bomb bay is not presurrized). The original radios are still installed and they still work! At the navigators station is a map covered in plastic, which is signed by the navigator of the Enola Gay. We took turns having our picture taken in the pilot and co-pilot seats and sitting down in front where the bombardier sits to drop the bombs. Then we just kinda sat there where we were – pretty tired after a long day of hard work, and Henry told us more about how difficult it is to taxi, and other things that are specific to a B-29. We were all tired on the way home that day, but we all had smiles on our faces too! Just a really neat experience!
