Well, we did it. Today was a BIG day as Bob and I got the landing gear drilled.
There were a total of four, 3/8" holes for the two outside attach brackets and four, 1/4" holes to hold on the outside wear plates. The holes were drilled thru the floor skin, the longeron that runs from the firewall to the tail and the steel weldment - so any error would be...well, really, really bad. We had everything measured up yesterday, but we ran thru the steps again today and re-measured and re-checked everything before drilling anything. The fore/aft measurement was right on, probably within 1/64th of an inch and the left/right measurement was at 1/32nd of an inch so I was good with that.
The first hole took much longer than the rest - as is always the case. Then after we got the eight holes drilled we removed everything and deburred it. We also drilled the 7/16" holes in the inboard wear plates and then reinstalled them under the gear and center punched the holes to be drilled for the inboard attach point. Big day - major milestone! Thanks Bob.
