I was anxious to get back out to the shop tonight and decided to "play" a little bit with the fuel gauge modification. I have seen a few panels that have the gauges down near the fuel selector - and I like it. Point the selector toward the full gauge and there you go. The RV-8 panel is not overly expansive, so anything I can take off the main panel will help free up space. I started bending some cardboard and actually pulled out the fly-cutter and used it to cut the holes in the cardboard - that may be overkill but like I said, I was playing. To get the full effect, I also chose to do a quick build up of the throttle quadrant.
I am currently mocking up the inverted-V ramp for the fuel gauges, and with the compound angles on the mid cockpit area it will take some more cuts and bends. In the end, I am not sure if I will go with the inverted-V or just angle it up on the LG box. Tomorrow I will look at the inverted-V and maybe go with a smaller face as there is room on the LG box for some cable controls so I will probably need to conserve that space too.
