Brief Description: Attaching Horizontal Stabilizer to Tail Cone
Final drilled 1/4" the VS Front Spar Attachment Bracket Hole Final drilled the 4 holes common to the VS Front Spar Attachment Bracket and the HS 1002 Front Spar.
Made the 4 F-1098 Shims on milling machine as per instructions in Figure 2
Attached the shims to the underside of the HS -1008 Brackets with double sided carpet tape.
Set the Horizontal Stabilizer onto the tailcone so that the HS-1003 Rear Spar was aft of the F-1011C HS Attach Bars that stick up out of the aft fuselage. as in Figure 4
Clecoed the HS to the HS Attach Bars using the 2 #30 alignment holes in the HS and the two 1/8 inch holes in the bars.
Match drilled #12 the four holes in the HS attach bars using the rear spar web as the guide.
After holes are drilled I inserted the hardware called out in Figure 4 and torqued to 30 in/lbs.
Cut a 2x4 to fit in between the HS Front Attach Brackets and clamped it in toward the foward edge of brackets to keep from damaging the aft deck. Page 11-5: Made reference marks on wood block and corresponding marks on Aft Deck
Measured the distance from aft outboard corners of HS 1001 to a common rivet hole on the centerline of the F 1075 Top Aft Skin of Tailcone. Had to adjust several times by loosening clamps to get correct position. Final measurement 94 1/16"
Match drilled #12 the four F 1098 Shims, F 1014 Aft Deck, F 1010B Spacer and F 1010A Angleusing the four holes in the HS 1008 Front Spar Attachment Brackets as drill guides. Had to use a 8" bit to get all the way through. Removed the HS and deburred all pieces.
Re-installed HS and attached with hardware as shown in Figure 3. Tightened to 30 in/lbs
Bolted the VS 1016 VS Attach Bracket to the HS 1002 Front Spar as per instructions in Figure 4 Torqued to 30 in/lbs.
