Brief Description:  Measuring the VS-1205 rib

Decided to spend some time this evening looking at the issue with VS-1205 rib and also to see if I could get VS-1206 to fit. Worked on VS-1206 first. I have been able to get it in but very tight at the front end which causes the front most rivet hole in rib flange to displace slightly out of line.. Will have to do some work on it to get it to fit but I think that I can make it work. All the other skin holes lined up perfectly.. Next I made some measurements of VS-1205 rib height at the rivet hole locations and marked on the rib. Figured I would send this to Van's to see if they could confirm that the dimensions are what they should be or if I have a rib that is out of family. I measured the gap at the front of the skin where its holes are and I definitely have an interference fit. I decided to sand the upper and lower flange areas with 220 grit emery paper to see if that helped the fit. I figured that since I planned to replace the rib anyways it could not hurt. I sanded the front 3 inches or so on each flange. It helped the fit somewhat and I was able to get the clecos in all but the front hole on one side. It is mis aligned as you can see in the picture of the hole. The rib is basically being pushed out of plane by the taper of the skin at the location it needs to go. I'll wait to the new rib shows to figure out what next - should be here tomorrow or Friday
