What a pain in the neck. The cabin heat cable/knob got cut too short, but didn't work well anyway. After much work trying to get the cable to reach and finding the connection was not so good, we decided to use a much better quality assembly/cable.knob.
This required drilling larger holes in the instrument panel, then cutting the cable to the right length (with a little extra), then connecting and testing quite a bit. The cabin heat valve opens and closes perfectly now.
