Brief Description:  Flap rigging

Sanded 1/8" from right flap outboard end due to interferrence with aileron discovered yesterday.

Most of the day was spent rigging and trouble shooting the right flap. When Sue and I installed the flap tracks several years ago, we took several days and got the flaps to flow up and down without any binding at all. This is a fairly difficult task on a IV, most bind. Today when we hooked up the entire system we had binding...why. First was paint/bodywork. The right flap was rubbing on the wing root fillet. Removing paint and micro in this area fixed that.

We found after removing the flap at least 20 times to make small adjustments that the rod end bearings were binding on the bell crank at certain angles. Placing "L" washers between the bearing and the bell crank solved the problem. It took us all day to discover this little secret.

Right flap now flows smoothly.
