Brief Description:  Wing Painting using the Stewart System 1/2

Wing Painting (both wings)

After wiring of the wings, the following steps were used to prepare the wing for painting:

- The protective plastic covering of the wings was removed and all access openings in the wing were closed off with plastic sheet and taped into position with masking tape to prevent any water/etching liquid to enter the wings.

- The wing was then thoroughly cleaned with Scotch Bright material and pure alcohol (99%) using a rotary disk tool.

- After further cleaning with alcohol to remove any aluminium and other residue from the surface, the wing was then etched using BONDERITE C-IC 33 Aero. This etching liquid was used in the same manner as the initial cleaning with alcohol, i.e. the etching liquid was applied with Scotch Bright (red) and the surface kept wet for some 5 to 10 minutes. Cleaning was then done by highpressure water jetting to ensure that all material was cleaned from the surface and the wing was then allowed to thoroughly dry overnight

- Two coats of white EkoPrime sealant to protect the cleaned and etched aluminium.

- Following the priming the various EkoPoly Premium Waterbourne topcoats were then applied, following the same procedure as for the fuselage components.
