Brief Description:  Welcome to our build log

Hi all and welcome to our Vans Aircraft RV7 build log.

The RV7 is a two seat aerobatic sport aircraft that can only be purchased in kit form. The basic kit consists of four parts (empennage, wings, fuselage, finishing) that can be ordered and constructed separately as project progresses or all together, as we did. Mainly due to shipping costs and the dollar/euro exchange rate being so good at the time.

The kit is available in a flat pack slow build option or a partially constructed quick build option. A tip-up canopy or slider canopy may also be chosen.
We opted for the slow build kit with tip-up canopy for a number of reasons,
1. Due to the much lower shipping costs than that of the quick build kit, it’s massive!
2. Being an engineer I’d rather construct the entire aircraft myself which allows better control of anti-corrosion application. Essential for this cold, damp country we live in.
3. Simply put, I just like to build stuff!!

There is also the option of a tri-gear model or a tail dragger model. We opted for the tail dragger which is much better suited to the grass strip we will eventually use and the fact that it looks way more aggressive.
Engine and avionic options will be looked at much later in the project. Since we are going for the 'slow build kit' coupled together with work and other commitments, I’d imagine it will take us years, and I mean years, to complete this project. No point having an engine sitting around gathering dust.

There are many build options and mods for this aircraft, most of which we had to decided pre-order but some will be decided as the project progresses. Check out www.vansaircraft.com for more info.
