Brief Description:  Brake test

Today I put the top cowl on and moved the plane outside. The ground was extremely slippery - melting ice.

With some misgivings I fired up the engine and warmed it prior to a taxi and brake check. It is very difficult steering when the only means of directional control is use of brake! I gave up after a few minutes, however the right brake does not seem to be leaking so under the circumstances I am happy enough.

Final job still to be scheduled is to readjust/balance the carbs again, after I disturbed them for the cap bolt work.

Tim wants to give the aircraft a final once-over prior to issuing a "Permit Maintenance Release", which will authorise the commencement of flight testing. With a fair wind this can happen just after New Year. We are still plagued with snow and ice, so this could delay things further.

It feels good on the last day of the year to have no essential outstanding work to complete.
