Brief Description:  Fitting the engine

The rest of today was devoted to engine work. Given lots of discussion on the web about the trigger coil gaps, I wanted to recheck mine. Second time around, I noticed that there are two rotating "platforms" (my non-tech terminology), one further towards the rear (of the engine),and the trigger points are at two distances from the rear also. You need to line up the platform with the appropriate gap. On rechecking, I believe mine are all with in the range 12-15 thou, so are in spec.

I'm not going to wait for the extra bits from Skydrive as I believe I should be able to fit these any time. So no excuse to stop me from installing the engine.

Drilling the lower mounting holes to 3/8 inch was no joke. In spite ofa new drill bit, I found it tough to drill. In fact, the surface looked really polished. I think I had not pressed hard enough, and ended up blunting the drill and possibly work-hardening the material. After much effort, I eventually blasted through, and my holes were a little ragged as a consequence. Vans allow 1/16 inch "adjustment" so I'm probably OK if the bolts can be pursuaded to fit.

Fortuitously a (strong) neighbour showed up so we moved the engine onto a plank beween two trestles. I then manouevered the fuselage to line up with the bolts. After a little adjustment with wood spacers, I got everything to line up and, hey presto, the bolts slipped into the holes. Just 5 minutes work (honestly), and no engine hoist necessary.
