First chore was to try again to see if the fuel tank was finally airtight. Of course it wasn't. With my manometer I could pressurise the tank to 1 psi and watch the soap bubbles sprouting up from three places in the tank sight window. This time I tried from the outside of the tank to squeeze Proseal into the gaps around the signt glass holes. Some hope! But I have not given up yet, quite. I'll need to leave it for another week to kill or cure.
After catching up on my administration, I dug out the instructions and parts to apply a "mod" to the canopy latch mechanism. Fortunately no drastic disassembly or rework required, just some crouching in the cockipt with the canopy closed to drill some holes. Of course I could have marshalled some neighbourly help to remove the canopy beforehand - would have made life a bit easier, albeit slower.
Next job was to fabricate and install a couple of nylon canopy guides. I'd had to wait for delivery of a suitable "tap" to complete this and other canopy tasks. This was missing from the early tools requirement list. See pictures 1 and 2. I have had to chamfer the one corner as per plans to get clearance from the rear screw/nut in the canopy. I can now see why it was necessary to grind these screws down flush with the nut.
