Brief Description:  Preparation for wing skinning

Well, after an evening's consideration, I decided to build a temporary stand for my second wing. Picture 1 shows the end result. Completely over-engineered, as the only wood I had to hand was three lengths of 4x2.

Picture 1 took me five hours to construct. It is 8 feet long and will sit astride the ribs of my right wing on my workbench. Fortunately, Ian, the club treasurer showed up at just the right time to prove that the design was fit for purpose.

Picture 2 shows the two wings on the workbench. It cannot be a biplane as one of the wings is "back-to-front". I'm well aware that this is is a very temporary arrangement, because as soon as I start to skin the bottom wing I can no longer use the stand! At least it will allow me to erect the paint booth to prime the wing skins.

The missing nuts (and the AEX) arrived from Vans today. They really do deliver the goods (a few days from problem reported to solution delivered - and all while most of the US aviation fraternity is at Oshkosh). This allowed me to install the terminal brackets (Page 16-04 Step 7). That's one of the loose ends put to bed. However, not without stripping the thread on one of the screws. Must remember to trial fit a screw in every nutplate (with a drop of oil), before any permanent mounting.

Picture 3 shows preparation work starting on the wing skins. I had to drag out the packing crate with the wing skins, and sort which skins go on the left wing, and which on the right. I have returned the skins for the right wing to their original storage location, while I work on the left wing skins. So far, all I have done is remove the blue plastic from the inside surface, and deburr the edges with a (new) scotchbrite wheel - my third, so far. Three more "in stock".
