Brief Description:  The Avionics Sub-Kit

Uniquely, the RV-12 kit includes all avionics, so these are essentially not user-selectable. Users can choose which of the Garmin x95 or x96 GPS units are to be installed, although some models have already been withdrawn by Garmin, and the design is soon expected to change to embrace the latest integrated Dynon offering. I went for the Garmin 495 as the weather-reporting capabillities of the Garmin 496 are not available in the UK.

Users can also choose whether to go with a Mode-S transponder or not. Obviously, I chose this for Europe flight, so my kit included the Garmin GTX328 unit.

Otherwise, everyone gets a Dynon D180 EFIS and engine instrument display, a Gramin SL40 radio, a panel-and-fuselage mounted ELT, and an intercom. The kit also includes headset jacks, a music socket, and an auxiliary 12 volt power supply (cigarette lighter type).

Users can also opt for a second Dynon unit, but the LAA in the UK required me to also fit standby "steam" gauges, and I located these where a second Dyon unit would have gone.

Finally, a Dynon autopilot is a option. Wiring and servo brackets are included in the base kit, so it is relatively easy to retro-fit this unit.
