Brief Description:  Rudder and Brake Pedals

Finished up the work on the spacer for the Gear Attach Web. Trimmed them to fit between the longerons. Cleco'd the bottom skin on again to make sure everything lined up, then drilled the #12 holes in the Gear Attach Web, angle, spacer and skin. Then I started in on the rudder and brake pedals. First, I got all the parts together, and fabricated the 4 angles I would need for one set of brake pedals. The new band saw blade is so nice. I should have done that earlier. Cuts like it's going through butter. Anyway, then I clamped and riveted to make mine look like the picture. They do. Deburred and primed and riveted them together. It was a nice change of scenery. Then the rudder pedals. Pretty much have to figure this out on your own, and I did. Got them in the right position, and clamped the center rudder pedal support bracket in place. Removed and drilled holes for that. Make sure you look closely at the end blocks for the rudder pedal tubes. They are angled (the large holes) different, and must face the right way. Drilled holes in the center bracket, and then cut in half. Put it around the center, bolted loosely in place and used it to space the center support bracket on the firewall vertically, so that it is in the right place. Next I have to put some holes where I may adjust the rudder pedals, but more than likely, I'll be putting them full forward, a little more than 3 inches from the firewall. Guess you can't have the passenger pedals a little closer for them, but oh well. It's my plane. If I have to remove bolts to adjust the pedals for a short person, it's not going to happen, and I'll just have to man the rudder for those occasions. I don't like novices on the rudder pedals or brakes anyway. Oh yeah, I primed and painted the arm rests a really cool metalic blue I saw at Lowe's Aircraft Supply. They look good. I'll be doing some parts of the interior that color. Exactly 650 hours so far.
