Brief Description:  Started Right & Left Elevator Assembly

Today I worked on both the right and left elevators. I prepared the E-703 end ribs and E-704 counterbalance ribs and clecoed them together for drilling and finally clecoed both to the E-702 elevator spar for drilling. Then I placed the E-714 counterweight on and clecoed the E-713 counterbalance skin over the weight and ribs. I used the two holes in the forward face of E-713 as a guide to drill #12 the holes for the screws that will hold E-714 in place. I used WD-40 to help lubricate while drilling. The key is to go slow and keep the bit lubricated and cleared of debris as much as possible to keep it from binding. After that I removed the weight and set it aside for further assembly.
I have a benchtop drill-press and had to reconfigure it in different ways to obtain the perfect drilling attitude. I would not attempt to do this without a drill press.
