Brief Description:  Starter Test pt. 1

Disconnected the cable from the starter and tested the starter relay. With the key rotated to the start position, the starter relay activated, but when the key was released the starter relay remained activated until the master switch was turned off. That indicated that the starter would remain on even with the key released from the start position; that didn't seem right. Discussed it with Jason; he agreed and we discussed a troubleshooting protocol. Disconnected the starter relay wire from the relay, connected multimeter leads to the starter wire and to ground and tested the ignition switch. It operated normally; 12VDC when activated; 0VDC when released. Reconnected the starter relay wire with the diode in place and connected the multimeter to the starter cable and ground. Tested the ignition switch; start position: 12VDC; released: 11VDC until master switch was turned off.
