Brief Description:  Fan Installation pt. 6

Removed both fans, cut off connectors and tested fans individually. First one worked... then didn't... and smelled a whiff of smoke. Same thing happened with the other fan; smelled smoke. Tested the remaining fan; it ran less than 20 seconds before failing. Emailed Jason Smith, and compiled still photos and video to document the issue. Jason later called back and we discussed the situation at length. He corrected my understanding of the difference between voltage and amperage. I knew the battery was providing the correct voltage, but misunderstood the concept of amperage. Jason explained that a battery does not force-feed available amperage; a motor can only draw the amperage it requires from a power source. Therefore if these motors are indeed rated as 12VDC motors, they should not have failed. Two heavier-duty fans were ordered from Digi-Key and discussions will continue regarding the failure of all five smaller motors.
