Brief Description:  Mount Vertical Stabilizer pt. 2

Initial centering of vertical stabilizer using the center cleco as a pivot point resulted in 1/4" difference with no more room to pivot. Called Van's Builder Support to discuss; they suggested that since that center hole would have no bolt or rivet, I could abandon it and clamp the rear spar in a more centered position to get an even measurement. They also approved of using the existing #12 pilot hole in the bottom of the rear bulkhead as a location for the lowest of the 3 bolt holes for mounting the bottom of the rear spar. Drilled #40 pilot hole through the tail spring mount plate centered in the #12 pilot hole. Used drill punch to mark back side of rear spar for matching hole, removed vertical stabilizer, drilled #40 pilot hole and began laying out critical placement of two upper bolt holes that go through rudder hinge plate, rear spar, bulkhead and doubler. Discovered an error in the plans, which called for 7/8" vertical spacing between the center of the lower iand upper bolt holes. By my calculations, it appeared to be about 1-3/4". Called Van's again and they confimed the error; actual spacing should be about 1-23/32".
