Removed top cowl and precisely aligned 2" PVC tape with edge of top forward skin. Replaced top cowl and aligned with laser level. Taped aft edge of cowl to top forward skin with 2" PVC tape and aligned top layer of tape with tape below. That effectively set the cut line of aft side of top cowl; marked with sharpie and removed top cowl. Checked lower cowl with alignment jig and straightedge to determine if molded-in joggles were fairly accurate. Determined trim line for outer forward flanges of bottom cowl. Test fit top cowl to bottom and examined alignments of all forward edges before doing any more trimming. Reviewed all instructions from Van's and other builders.
