Brief Description: Left Elevator - 03 - Stiffener & Skin Work
- Finally got back on the project. I took the summer off. Mostly because it was hitting 130 degrees plus in the garage...Ouch. - Needless to say the garage was a mess. Spent a few hours getting the workshop back in order (didn't include this time in build time). - Reoriented with where I left off with the build. - Finished edges on bottom left elevator stiffeners. - Final drilled bottom left elevator stiffeners to left elevator skin. - Removed stiffeners and deburred holes. - Deburred stiffener holes in skin. - Dimpled bottom left elevator stiffeners. - Prepped stiffeners for primer. - Primed bottom left elevator stiffeners and left counterbalance weight. - Dimpled bottom left elevator skin holes for stiffeners. Had to use pop-rivet dimpler on the 2 trailing edge holes. - Drilled trim access reinforcement plate (E-615PP) to left elevator skin (E-701-L). - Final drilled nut plates to trim access reinforcement plate (E-615PP). - Dimpled trim access reinforcement plate (E-615PP) and trim access cover (E-616PP) for #6 screws. - Deburred holes in skin for trim access reinforcement plate. - Deburred holes and edges on reinforcement plate (E615PP) and cover (E-616PP). - Dimpled holes in skin for trim access reinforcement plate. - Dimpled holes in reinforcement plate (E-615PP) and cover (E616PP). - Prepped and primed reinforcement plate and cover (E-615PP and E-616PP). - Back riveted top and bottom stiffeners (E-720) to left elevator skin (E701-L). - Need to get some pop rivets for the trailing edge holes. I used all the ones I had on the right elevator.
*** NOTE: I wasn't sure if I wanted to dimple the rivet holes for the platenuts on the elevator trim reinforcement plate (E-615PP). I was concerned that if I didn't the cover plate wouldn't seat properly and there would be a gap. Although it is on the bottom of the elevator I didn't want to worry about water intrusion or moisture getting in and causing corrosion or damaging the electrical. - Folded trailing edge of left elevator skin. -
See honey I do wash stuff!
